Child Illness Policy & Health Laws

    Communicable Diseases and Immunization:
The Health and Safety Laws of California require a complete record of immunization for each child attending any type of Child Care in this state
.

It is the duty of the child care director to send home any child suspected of having a communicable disease, flu or vomiting, high fever, or head injury of possible fracture.
Child Care reserves the right not to provide care for a child who is, in the Licensee's sole judgment, seriously ill or contagious, i.e., a child who Licensee feels will jeopardize the health of the children being cared for or is of a nature that would require special medical attention. Example: fever over 100 F, thick green or yellow mucous nose, red crusty eyes, diarrhea, vomiting, or skins rashes, including but not limited to: chicken pox, measles, etc. Any child that becomes ill during the Child Care hours will have to be removed by their parent (s) as soon as possible. If the parent (s) cannot be reached the emergency number on the Emergency Form will be called.
In the event nobody is available to pick the child up from the Child Care, Parent (s) agrees that the Licensee calls the Paramedics and all the expenses with that service will be the sole responsibility of the Parent (s).
Parent can benefit others when your own children are ill by keeping them home or sending them to a Sick Child Care Program, like the ones in the Torrance Memorial Hospital or in the Little Company of Mary Hospital, and notifying their own Child Care of the nature of the illness.
Before admitting children to a Family Child Care, they have to be immunized against diseases and have verification of a TB test.
(1) Licensee must document each child's immunization and maintain documentation in the Family Child Care as long as the child is enrolled.
(2) Licensee shall record each child's immunization on the California School Immunization Record, PM 286.
EXEMPTIONS: * Children who lack documentation of having received all immunizations if they have started receiving doses.
* A physician provides a written statement that immunization is not required and duration of exemption if it is temporary.
